(Re)construction zone

The first salvo has been fired: Mike Fisher to Nashville for the 2011 first round draft pick, and a scaling draft pick for 2012.

It's a great fit for Fisher of course as Mrs. Fisher (aka Carrie Underwood) hails from Nashville. I guess the couple will have to keep "casa de Fisher" near Peterborough as a summer "cottage". In a hockey sense, Fisher is a good fit in Nashville where he brings some grit. Fisher will take the spot of the number-2 centre, and can contribute on the power play and on the penalty kill. Nashville is also a serious post-season contender.

We're also sure it's not the last salvo. Instructions from the top seem to be to drop salary and rebuild. Fisher's $4.2 million are now off the books. Up on the auction block are also the following potentials: Chris Phillips, Milan Michalek, Alex Kovalev, Sergei Gonchar, Filip Kuba, and Pascal Leclaire. If some interesting deals can be made for them, don't discount the entire checking line of Chris Kelly, Chris Neil, and Jarkko Ruutu either.

It would leave the cupboard really bare, but it depends on what the Senators get in excahnge, and what can be gotten from draft picks, scouting, and bringing young talent up from the minors. In the next few entries, we'll take a look at the likely candidates and possible destinations for them.

GO SENS GO!!
