Just a few inches...

The Senators certainly didn;t look like they were folding under the pressure. Actually, it looked more like a game of one upmanship between the Sens and the Vancouver Canucks

That the game ended in a loss seemed pre-ordained, but it wasn't. The Sens held their own and showed the Canucks what for. Brian Elliott, who had struggled of late, was strong in nets. Where he was beaten, most goalies would have been beaten as well. If anything, Elliott could have used a tad more support from his defense as they seemed to be anticipating the play. A prime example was Chris Phillips anticipating the pass to Daniel Sedin, leaving Burrows alone to walk in and beat Elliot for Vancouver's first goal. The Senators were congratulating Elliott at the end of the game, as well they should, he more than kept up with Roberto Luongo.

The work of Daniel Alfredsson in stripping the puck from Kevin Bieksa and feeding Nick Foligno for the Senators' first goal was a thing of beauty. It's something I sorely missed from Alfie. Foligno's back-hander is something I wanted to see from the Senators; an instinctive knowledge of where the net is. Foligno didn't even look.

The 3 on 0 breakaway for the Senators was magical. Something I;d never seen before and that I probably won't ever see again. The fact that Jason Spezza was able to collect his first goal since his return by catching his own rebound and burying past hotshot Luongo was the cherry on the sundae.

And it came down to a matter of inches when Milan Michalek rang one off the goal post on a breakaway. A total heartbreaker that one. As soon as we pulled the goalie, I knew we were done. We'd had difficulty gettin our power play into the Canuck zone all night and we don;t play all that well 6 on 5... but we had to try.

I loved the effort, and a few inches to the right could have changed the picture of this game entirely. Let's keep on rolling.

GO SENS GO!!
