Rock bottom

This is what Wile E. Coyote must feel like when he hits after a long fall off a cliff. It's painful, it's ugly, it puts life as we know it in jeopardy.

I am still a firm believer in "more offense is the best defense" and "denfense doesn't win games". I admit that allowing five goals is a tad much, but as long as the Sens would have scored six goals, I'm fine. Let's be frank, last night the Sens had no offense, no defense, and little goaltending. Argue as much as you like, but when Brian Elliott and Mike Brodeur combine for a .762 save percentage (with Elliot a dismal .574) I would say there was little goaltending.

I would use the word "laughable" to describe the Senators' performance, except that there was nothing to laugh about, and much to weep over. You can tell that, for the Senators, it is no longer fun, and they are panicking, which is not helping matters at all.

One particularly incensed player was Chris Phillips who lost the puck when he got tangled with referee Fred L'Écuyer. After the puck wound up in the net 2 seconds later, Phillips turned around to offer L'Écuyer a piece of his mind. That play was, fr me, almost a turning point; a point at which I mentally threw in the towel on the Senators' behalf.

This is the type of performance that gets coaches and general managers fired. And while I think the Sens haven't been greatly served by Bryan Murray, I like Cory Clouston, and it would be a shame for him to suffer for the disgraceful play of his team.

I would insert my usual "GO SENS GO!!" here, but I think "STOP SENS STOP!!" would be more appropriate.
