Divine Comedy

I had to laugh. I didn't have a choice. It was either laugh, or pop a major brain artery. So I laughed. This should have been a Senators win. The fact that it wasn't was a tragedy. The way it happened was a comedy.

It was such a great comic relief moment, really. The tension with only a minute left in the game, the time-out by coach Cory Clouston, the camera panning across the serious intent faces of Nick Foligno, Jason Spezza, and Erik Karlsson. The planning on ice as to the play that would allow the Senators to get back into the game.

Then the puck dropped and Sergei Gonchar, the last protection between Dubinsky and an empty net, tripped on the blue line and wound up flat on his back. You have to laugh at those moments. Otherwise, one may as well start cheering for that other Ontario team... NOT!!

So let's concentrate on the good stuff. Mike Fisher was good for a couple of goals and a near one. The play overall was fast, with pressure, and the Sens were able to get inside the slot for once, and cause some damage. The teams were fairly evenly matched, which means the Senators are playing better than an 11th place team in the East.

On the downside, it's the first time in a long time that bad goaltending was an issue. Brian Ellliot should have been able to stop Sauer's five-hole goal, and definitely should have had Christensen's shot from the corner. The Devils come to town next, and the Senators desparately need to win that one.

GO SENS GO!!
