Inglorious end
The New York Rangers have finally seen the light of day and put former Senators Wade Redden on waivers. The writing had been on the wall for a while with Redden. I think he lost something precious to his game when his mother passed away, and rumours have always been rampant that Redden sought some consolation in drugs.

Famouly kept in Ottawa over Zdeno Chara in 2005-06, Redden didn't live up to the expectations in Ottawa, and was likely instrumental in the firing of John Mucklet as GM of the Senators. Be that as it may, his acquisition by the New York Rangers for a whopping $6.5 million a year has often been referred to as the "worst contract ever" by Big Apple journalists. Redden wound up on the third defensive pairing, and benched often.
The move gives the Rangers needed cap room for the season's start. Since it is unlikely that any team will pick up this rich contract, Redden will likely have to compete his career in the AHL in order to collect his salary. This may just make him the highest paid AHL player out there.
It's sad to see such a great career, one that had held such further promise, brought down to this. But "all's fair in love and hockey".
