Perfection doesn't matter

The Senators' game against the Buffalo Sabres was proof positive that perfection is not necessary.

Now I don't mean to say that the Sens weren't good, they were actually great, just not perfect. And you don't need perfect. The Senators paid in full for the mishaps Lady Luck and the few mistakes they made with two goals by the Sabres. Other wise, the game was beautifully played.

The Senators are back to palying the Cory Clouston system and their roles to great effect. The Sabres were very, very lucky to have Ryan Miller tending nets for them as the score could have been much different. Miller roobed a few of the Senators. But back to roles. The Chris Neil - Jarkko Ruutu- Chris Kelly line forechecked admirably and were rewarded with an ugly scrambly type garbage goal.

Jason Spezza made his usual blind plays and some paid off when Peter Regin benefitted from one of those blind passes and made no mistakes with it. Daniel Alfredsson was a complete player again, Erik Karlsson contributed in the D-Zone and the O-Zone, Brian Elliott who sopped no less then 41 of 43 shots... think about it, that's .953 for that game alone.

All the cogs worked admirably. Nothing flashy, nothing spectacular, everything solid. As it should be. You can take this type of hockey very far in the playoffs. And that's what matters.
