Finally!

The game against the Oilers was much better than the one against the Toronto Maple Leafs. After all, the game against the Leafs was pretty much "skate a shift, go to the bench to puke, repeat. " Really! Hats off to all the Senators who were sick with the stomach bug and showed up anyway to grab a point. It wasn't much of a game to watch, but the boys still got it done.

On the other end of the scale, The Oilers game was scary, just for the fact that, for a while there, I thought Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers was going to steal the show. After 13 shots on goal in the first period, nothing had gone in, although Deslauriers had stolen one right off the goal line. And then Edmonton's Pisani opened the scoring in the second on the Oilers' 11th shot on goal. "Oh no, I though, we're going to be undone by another hot goalie." It took 24 shots on goal for Chris Kelly to finally put one past Deslauriers, and then it looked really fluky. Finally, in the third, all the effort paid off as the Sens finally managed to solve the Oilers goalie three more times to put this one away.

Hats off to the special teams, especially the power play. It looked early on that the Oilers would be able to get away with penalties without paying for it as they managed to kill off six penalties in the first period without the Sens capitalizing. But in the third, the power play showed the Oilers the error of their ways. First Matt Cullen, then Milan Michalek showed the Edmonton crew that they could make them pay for their offenses. I loved the play of Mike Fisher, who scored a beautiful goal by shooting the puck right between the Oilers defenseman's legs and beat Deslauriers. Fisher was parked in front of Deslaurier's cage most of the night as well, providing a screen.

Captain Daniel Alfredsson keeps showing us how it's done by collecting 3 assists last night. This goes a long way towards one of those really tough records: 1000 points in 1000 games. Alfie needs to average 2 points per game for the next 13 games to make it. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it is highly improbable.

Kudos also to Jason Spezza, Erik Karlsson, and Chris Kelly who also collected two points each.
