Uh oh...

Two games since the break, two losses. It's never too early to start worrying, especially since there are so few games left.

The Senators reaped what they sowed last night against the 28th place Carolina Hurricanes. too many turnovers, too many mistakes, too few battles won, especially in the defensive zone, and there you have it, a 4-1 loss. Granted that the Canes are not exactly your walk-in-the-park 28th place team; they have won 7 of their last 10. Also granted that Manny Legace contributed at the other end of the ice. But it remains that during the two-week Olympic break, the Senators have lost their way, while the Canes haven't.

The month of March is a tough one for the Sens. Of their remaining twelve games this month, eight are on the road, including aWest Coast swing to play against the Oilers, Flames and Canucks. The Sens haven't been great on the road, and have been dismal in West Coast games. They will nevertheless have to find a way to win some of these. As easy as the climb up to third place was in January, a slide down below the playoff line is even easier.
