Cheechoo finally gets one
It took 15 long games for Jonathan Cheechoo the 2006 NHL top scorer to finally get on in the back of the net. With a savvy play from Alexei Kovalev, who pickpocketed Visnovsky behind the net and fed Cheechoo, the latter finally erased the goose egg that marred his goals tally.

This is a depressing display from the one-time Maurice Richard Trophy recipient. Cheechoo had been quoted as saying he didn't care how he scored the goal, that it could "come off his skate or his face" as long as it went in. With Cheechoo roofing the pass from Kovalev, the goal was much better than his just planting his face in front of the puck, But a quick forecast calculation shows that, following his current pattern, Cheechoo would finish the season with 6 goals and 11 assists. This would likely put him well behind 4th liner Jarkko Ruutu who is not known to be a scoring machine. Here's hoping this one goal by Cheechoo was the bursting of the dam and that nothing will now stop the bursting flood waters.
