Conquering the Big O

The Big O may be desirable in more private quarters, but on the team's scoresheet, it's not such a good thing. Only three players are still without points this season on the Senators roster.

No points

Philip Kuba was sidelined early with a "hard to find" injury and will make his return tonight. His spot on the power play is pretty much guaranteed and it should take long for the veteran to garner his first point. Chris Campoli is also without a point this season, and it's not for lack of trying. He has much more poise than last season, but only four shots on goal. Expect his first point to come on a break-out pass soon. Finally, Ryan Shannon has been unimpressive on the attack, with only three shots on goal through four games. Unacceptable for a forward. If Coach Cory agrees with me, the Shannon should be benched against the Preds.

No goals

A little stranger is the fact that both first liners Jason Spezza and Jonathan Cheechoo are without a goal. It's not for lack of trying here either. Spezza averages two shots on goal per game, while Cheechoo is a hair away from three shot on goal per game. It's only a matter of time before they start lighting up the lamp. Spezza is, reportedly, still suffering from a bothersome injury, which hasn't prevented him from making some pretty brilliant setups of late. Fourth-liner Chris Kelly is also without a goal, but still has four assists with ten shots on goal. Nothing to sneeze at for Kelly who has improved tremendously since last season.
