Leclaire, blueliners save game!?!
I was more than a little floored by the results of last night's game against the Montreal Canadiens. Defense and goaltendingsaved the game! This is not something we usually hear about our Sens, but it sure was true last night. Nowhere was it more apparent than when the Senators survived a 5-on-3 for 1:55 in the first, and then Sens PK was like a wall in front of Leclaire blocking shot after shot. All in all, the Sens D-men prevented 26 shots from even getting to Leclaire last night.

Pascal Leclaire was solid, and had to work hard at the very start of the game as the Habs made a tremendous push to get one in early. He made 15 of his 27 saves in the first period when the Canadiens had almost total control of the game. Except for the bobbled puck that allowed the Canadiens to tie the game 1-1, Leclaire was a rock and at times brilliant in his netminding. He garnered the 1st start for the game.
With six games under his belt, Leclaire's now sports a .918 save percentage, putting him ahead of such goaltending luminaries as Evgeni Nabokov, Mikka Kiprusoff, Martin Brodeur and Roberto Luongo. Ottawa's backup goalie Brian Elliott who only played one game so far has a .929 save percentage. I hope to see him in nets again soon, perhaps as early as Thursday when the Senators play the Nashville Predators at The Bank.
